Few things can transform your home the way that new floors can. If you’re taking on a hardwood-flooring project for the first time, you likely have a lot of questions. Other then what type of hardwood to choose, you might be wondering what to expect during the installation process. At Floor Coverings International Waukesha we’ve done thousands of flooring installations, and put together a basic overview of the installation process.

At Floor Coverings International Waukesha our first step is always to schedule an in-home consultation with prospective customers. An expert design consultant will come to your home and assess and measure the space. Then they will help you find the best hardwood for your needs, space, and budget.

Before we begin any work, we will provide you with a detailed timeline of the installation process so you will know exactly what to expect. We always strive to meet our estimation, but sometimes unforeseen problems arise. It’s good to add a day or two of buffer to account for that. Once the hardwood arrives, it will need a few days to acclimate to the space to adjust to the temperature and moisture in your home. It is a critical step to ensure proper installation and the longevity of your hardwood.

When the installation process begins the first step is to remove the existing flooring and inspect the subfloor. If there are any cracks or dents in the subfloor, it will need repair before continuing with the installation. If left unattended it can cause problems including squeaking or weakening the floor. Once we begin laying the floor, expect some noise and dust. We do our best to keep the mess to a minimum, but some dust is unavoidable.

Once the floor is in place and any adhesive has set, we will move your furniture back into the room. Then all that’s left is to enjoy your beautiful new floors for years to come!
