One of the biggest trends in the latest PANTONE color report for spring 2015 is an olive green. PANTONE features Woodbine, a classic olive green. You can see the all of the colors here. Our Design Associates at Floor Coverings International Waukesha are sometimes asked how to incorporate color trends into their home. Here are some ways you can do just that to make your neighbors green with envy at your superb design skills.
If you are going to be using this color, depending on the vastness of your space, try to have neutrals like brown and grey in your color palette. Black can go well with it, but with too much it can look too harsh and jarring. Choose a deeper, darker, and overall more muted olive green for a more classic approach. A brighter variation will help to make your room a bit more fun.
This olive green shade can look great with other bold colors like orange and yellow when used sparingly. If you go for a bright shade of green, blue, yellow, and orange, this can give your room a very youthful feeling. So how can you incorporate this color into your space? Continue reading!
The most obvious way is with paint. Try it as an accent wall to start. Mix it up with a wall covering in a funky pattern for something a bit more unique. If you’ve committed to the color a bit more, it can look great in the kitchen as a tiled backsplash.
Feeling more daring? Try it in your furniture. If you do go down this path, try to keep everything else more neutral. Start with items that can easily be changed such as a fun footrest, nightstand, or throw pillow. Before you fully commit to larger pieces of furniture like a sofa, or more permanent like in your floors, you can also try drapes and rugs. You can choose how much, or how little, of the color you want to feature in your space.
If you’ve already committed to having an olive green sofa, you’re in luck, as it is surprisingly versatile. Certain shades of olive green are sometimes even considered a neutral! This means flooring choices and many other furniture and accessories will be fairly easy to coordinate. You can look for area rugs that have a similar green in them, or go for a neutral color. A gray or white shag-styled rug will look great against a dark wood floor and your new olive green sofa.
